Captivity – A Poem

“I woke up early in the morning
But she was standing much before my awakening
I tried to break my chains
But all my efforts were in vain

I was standing right next to her
So close yet so far
I shouted something else
Her lips murmured something else

I stood by her every move
She never did what I desired-as if she had something to prove
To please the world
Her entire life swirled

Years went by
I was always nearby
Like a shadow luring in darkness
But she absconded , calling me her weakness

Now I’m sitting all alone
Living in my own dark zone
I, her conscience, whose existence was doomed
Was more than ready to be unmoored
